Capturing the Rhythm: Mackay Linedancers Event & Colin Ghys
There is nothing quite like the energy of a room full of people moving in perfect synchronization—especially when the energy is fueled by country music, laughter, and a world-class choreographer.
Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of being the official event photographer for the Mackay Linedancers, who hosted an unforgettable workshop and social featuring the incredibly talented Colin Ghys. From the very first stomp to the final bow, my camera lens was treated to a masterclass in community, passion, and pure fun.
Here is a look behind the lens at how the day unfolded!
Linedancing is fast, dynamic, and full of expression, which makes it an absolute dream to photograph. My goal for the day was to capture not just the choreography, but the feeling in the room.
The Master at Work: Watching Colin Ghys teach is an experience in itself. I loved capturing his infectious enthusiasm, his sharp cues, and the moments of intense focus (and subsequent laughter) from the dancers as they mastered new routines.
Perfect Synchronization: There is a beautiful geometry to line dancing. Getting up high to capture the sweeping rows of dancers moving as one was a visual highlight of the day.
The Candid Joy: The best shots always happen between the steps. The high-fives, the shared grins when a tricky sequence clicked, and the vibrant sea of crazy outfits (especially on night three!) and boots made every frame pop.
Boot-Scootin’ and Storytelling
As a photographer, my job goes beyond taking sharp images; it's about preserving the atmosphere. The Mackay Linedancers community welcomed Colin with open arms and boundless energy. Whether you were a seasoned pro nailing every turn or a beginner just enjoying the music, the camaraderie in the room was palpable.
Events like this remind me why I love event photography. It’s about freezing those fleeting moments of connection and joy so that everyone can relive the magic long after the music stops.
A massive thank you to the Mackay Linedancers organizers and Colin Ghys for having me along to document such a fantastic event!
